Privacy Policy

The short version
- KidSwing never creates a video or audio recording of your child. Not one that's saved, and not one that's deleted afterward — there is never a file at all.
- Your player's name, birth month and year, and swing numbers are stored on your device. We never receive them.
- KidSwing has no accounts, no login, and no server holding your data.
- We run no analytics, no ad tracking, and no third-party tracking software of any kind.
- We do not sell your data. We do not have your data to sell.
The rest of this page explains exactly how that works, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.
Who we are
KidSwing is made by Arai Holdings LLC, a Michigan limited liability company doing business as Built by a Dad. When this page says "we" or "us," that's who it means. You can reach us at joe@kidswing.app.
Why there is no video
Most swing-analysis apps record your child, upload that recording to a server, and analyze it there. KidSwing works differently, and the difference is architectural rather than a setting you can switch off.
When the camera is running, KidSwing reads the live camera feed and measures where the body is in each frame — wrists, hips, shoulders, feet. Those positions are numbers, and the numbers are what the app keeps.
The frames themselves are held in your device's memory only as long as it takes to measure the swing, at most about a second, and are then released. Nothing is written to storage. No file is created at any point, which means there is nothing to upload, nothing to leak in a breach, nothing to hand over, and nothing that could be recovered from the device later. All of this happens on your device using Apple's built-in vision processing.
We're being this specific on purpose. Any app that reads a camera necessarily holds frames in memory for a moment — that is physically what reading a camera is, and an app claiming otherwise would be describing something impossible. The meaningful question is whether those frames are ever written down, and in KidSwing they are not.
This is the single most important thing on this page, so we'll say it plainly: no image or video of your child is ever created, stored, or transmitted by KidSwing.
KidSwing does not use your device's microphone.
What is stored on your device
KidSwing stores the following on the device you're using, and only there:
- About your player: first name; last name and jersey number, both optional; birth month and birth year; sport; age group; batting handedness; height. If a photo feature is available in your version of the app and you choose to add a photo of your athlete, that photo is stored only on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.
- About their practice: session records, swing measurements, form grades, coaching cues shown, and diagnostic logs used to check that the app measured correctly.
We deliberately do not collect a day of birth, an email address for your player, a phone number, an address, a school, or a team affiliation. Last name and jersey number are optional — the app works completely without them.
This information does not sync to us, to a cloud service, or to any other device except as described in the sections below.
Apple Watch
An Apple Watch pairs with an iPhone, not an iPad. That is Apple's design rather than a KidSwing limitation — the technology a watch uses to talk to another device does not exist on iPadOS at all. If you run KidSwing on an iPad, a watch cannot send it anything. To use a watch, run KidSwing on the iPhone that watch is paired to. The app says so on screen rather than quietly receiving nothing.
A camera can only see where the body is. A watch on the wrist feels how it moves — acceleration and rotation, hundreds of times a second, far faster than any camera can sample. That opens up measurements a camera physically cannot take, and they will appear in the app as they are finished.
To collect that data, the watch app starts a workout session. This is how Apple's motion sensors deliver high-rate readings — without an active workout session, no data arrives at all. watchOS asks your permission for this, because starting a workout is normally how an app writes exercise data into Health.
KidSwing does not read anything from your Health data, and it does not write anything into it. The workout session exists only to switch the motion sensors on. What KidSwing keeps is the motion measurements themselves, and they travel from the watch to your paired iPhone and stay there. Nothing goes to us and nothing goes to a server.
You can use KidSwing without an Apple Watch. The camera measurements work on their own.
What leaves your device
One feature, and it is currently switched off. KidSwing includes an AI Development Report that turns a season of measurements into a plain-language written summary for a parent. Generating that report requires sending data to an AI service operated by Anthropic, PBC.
That feature is not enabled in the current release. When it is enabled, what gets sent is numbers and short descriptive phrases only — session counts, total swings, a date range, which form findings appeared most often, and the age group, sport and handedness needed to make the coaching advice correct. Your player's name is not sent. Nor is any identifier that maps to them. The report you read on your device shows their first name because your device puts it there after the text comes back.
No swing video, no images, and no body-position data are ever sent. In the current release there is no other feature in KidSwing that sends anything to us or to anyone else.
SeasonPass, when it arrives, will be different, and we want to say so before you buy anything. SeasonPass is planned to offer backup and restore of your practice history, reports delivered on a schedule, and optional comparison against other players. Every one of those needs a copy of your data on a server — that is what backup means. It is not built yet and nothing is being sent today. Before SeasonPass ships we will update this page to describe exactly what is stored, for how long, and how to get it deleted, and we will say so in the app before it takes effect rather than quietly changing this document. Nothing already on your device starts leaving it because a new feature exists; using SeasonPass will be a choice you make.
The Batter Display. KidSwing can show live stats on other screens — a tablet, a laptop, or several of them at once, on the same Wi-Fi network, viewed in a web browser. Your device runs a small local web server to do this, and any number of screens can open the page. The page shows the current player's first name and their live numbers. It is served only over your local network and is not reachable from the internet, but it is not password-protected, so anyone already on that same Wi-Fi network could open it if they knew the address. On a home network that's your family. On public or club Wi-Fi, be aware of it.
Purchases. Licenses are sold through Apple's App Store using StoreKit. Apple handles the payment entirely. We never see your card number, billing address, or Apple ID. We receive only Apple's confirmation that a purchase is valid.
What we don't do
We do not run analytics or crash-reporting software. We do not use advertising identifiers, tracking pixels, or third-party software development kits of any kind. We do not serve ads. We do not sell, rent, trade, or share personal information with data brokers, advertisers, or anyone else — the reason is simple: we don't have it.
Children's privacy
KidSwing is built for baseball and softball players, with roughly ages 6 to 18 in mind. It isn't limited to that range — an adult can use it perfectly well — but many of the athletes measured with it are children, and some are under 13. That's the reality of the product, and it's why the design starts from not collecting their information at all.
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) governs the online collection of personal information from children under 13 by the operator of an online service. We do not collect any personal information from or about your child. A parent, guardian, or coach enters the player's details, and those details stay on that adult's own device. Nothing about your child is transmitted to us, and we hold no record of any child anywhere.
Because we collect nothing, there is nothing for us to disclose, share, sell, retain, or lose. There is no profile, no advertising to your child, and no behavioral tracking. KidSwing is not directed to children as users — it is a tool for parents and coaches — and children do not create accounts, because there are no accounts.
Before recording any session, the adult setting up the app must confirm they are the player's parent or guardian, or a coach who has the right to collect practice data for the players in their program.
If you are a coach
Coaches use KidSwing with players who are not their own children. When you set up the app as a coach, you confirm that you have the right to collect practice session data for the players in your program and that those players' families have been informed. We ask you to mean it. The families of the children you coach are entitled to know that their child's practice numbers are being measured and stored, even though — as described above — none of it goes anywhere.
KidSwing does not create video, so coaching a team does not produce footage of other families' children. Please don't work around that with screen recording. It defeats the protection the app is built to give those families.
Keeping and deleting your information
Because your player's information lives on your device, you control how long it stays. We delete nothing on your behalf, because we have nothing to delete — none of it ever reaches us.
Removing KidSwing from your device removes your player profiles, sessions, and swing data with it. There is no server-side copy, no backup held by us, and no account to close.
One thing the app does clear on its own. Alongside each swing's measurements, KidSwing keeps the detailed body-position frames that produced them, which is what lets it draw a replay of the swing. Those frames are much larger than the measurements, and they stop being useful as a child grows — a position from when your player was two inches shorter isn't a fair comparison any more. So KidSwing removes body-position frames older than about 365 days. This happens when you next open the app, so a device left closed for a year clears them the next time it's launched. The swing measurements themselves are not removed; only the frames behind them.
KidSwing also writes measurement logs into its own folder on your device, and that folder is deliberately open to the Files app so you can retrieve your own data without asking us for it. That convenience has a flip side worth knowing: anyone with access to your unlocked device can browse those files. They contain measurements and player names. They never contain video or audio.
There is one exception to "deleting the app deletes everything," and we'd rather tell you about it than have you find it. KidSwing keeps three small records in your device's secure keychain:
- how many player profiles have ever been created on that device,
- how much of the free trial has been used, and
- whether an annual Coach license has ever been held on that device.
They exist to enforce license limits and to stop the paid tiers from being trivially bypassed. They are counters and a flag. They contain no name, no birthdate, and no information about any child. They are set to remain on that device only and are not synchronized to iCloud. They survive deleting the app, by design.

What KidSwing is not
KidSwing measures and compares athletic movement. It is not a medical or diagnostic device, and it does not diagnose, treat, prevent, or rehabilitate any injury or condition. It makes no medical claims and no guarantee of improved performance. Decisions about injury, pain, or return to play belong to qualified medical professionals. See our Terms for the full statement.
Your rights
KidSwing is currently available in the United States only. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information a company holds about you, and to know whether it has been sold or shared.
We hold no personal information about you or your player, so there is nothing for us to produce, correct, or erase, and nothing has been sold or shared. If you believe we hold information about you and want it addressed, email joe@kidswing.app and we will respond.
How to check that this is true
You don't have to trust this page. Two things you can verify yourself in about a minute:
No video is accumulating. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings → General → iPhone Storage → KidSwing. Video is enormous — an app quietly saving your child's swings would grow by hundreds of megabytes, then gigabytes, with use. KidSwing grows by a few megabytes a season, because what accumulates is numbers and the body-position frames behind the swing replays. Those frames clear at 365 days, so the app settles at a size rather than climbing forever. If you ever see hundreds of megabytes, something is wrong and we want to hear about it.
Nothing is being sent. Put your device in Airplane Mode and run a full practice session. Detection, form grading, coaching cues, and history all work with no internet at all. An app that depended on uploading your child's swing could not do that. (Airplane Mode switches off cellular and Wi-Fi but leaves Bluetooth on, so a paired Apple Watch keeps working during the test. The Batter Display needs Wi-Fi, so that one won't connect until you turn Airplane Mode off.)
Changes to this policy
If we change how KidSwing handles information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant — particularly anything that would cause information to leave your device — we will say so plainly in the app before it takes effect, not quietly in a document revision.
